The Elephants face a tough draw in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, aiming to repeat their previous tournament success.

Defending champions Ivory Coast have been placed in a challenging group for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers pitting them against Zambia, Sierra Leone, and Chad in Group G.

The draw, which unfolded on a vibrant Thursday afternoon in Johannesburg, South Africa, sets the stage for a thrilling battle to secure a spot in the continent's premier football competition.

According to Sports Buddy, the ceremony was graced by the presence of Cote d’Ivoire's head coach, Emerse Fae, and Moroccan football legend Marouane Chamakh, both of whom played pivotal roles in conducting the draw.

The Elephants will enter the qualifiers with high expectations following their triumphant campaign in the previous edition of the AFCON in 2023, which they hosted.

Zambia perhaps their most notable adversary in the group presents a significant hurdle as the Chipolopolo have historically proven to be a tough opponent.

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone and Chad, though considered underdogs bring unpredictability and potential for upsets adding layers of intrigue and challenge to the group dynamics.

The qualifiers are set to kick off in September to determine the first 24 nations that will compete in the 35th edition of Africa's biggest tournament.
