AFCON 2025: Harambee Stars to face Cameroon in tough group

Harambee Stars have been faced in a very tough AFCON 2025 qualifying group, which will include a tricky double-headed encounter against Cameroon.

The Kenya national football team Harambee Stars have identified their opponents for the upcoming 2025  AFCON qualifiers which will be taking place from September all the way to November this year.

The tournament, which will be taking place in December 2025, will see Kenya make attempts to qualify for their seventh tournament, having missed out on qualification for the 2023 edition due to the year-long ban imposed on them by FIFA in 2022.

Kenya have been placed in Group I, where they will be playing against Zimbabwe, Namibia and Cameroon with their aim being to qualify for the first time since 2019.

Head coach Engin Firat has revealed his plan is to make sure the side not only qualify for the tournament, but also make the knockout stages for the first time in history, which will give them a good standing as they prepare to host the 2027 edition on home soil.

There is also optimism that Kenya will host their home matches in the country, having not been allowed to host the recent World Cup qualifying games against Burundi and Ivory Coast.

Coincidentally, Kenya were placed alongside Cameroon in the 2023 qualifiers but never faced them due to the ban, and will thus have a chance to face them yet again.

They have faced Zimbabwe twice this year, and emerged victorious on both occasions. They will also be hoping to amend the errors of the 2013 AFCON qualifiers against Namibia, where they were unable to beat them both home and away.
