Ligue 1 giants Marseille have suspended Congolese international Chancel Mbemba following an incident during training. As a result, the 29-year-old defender will no longer train with his teammates or represent the club.

According to RMC Sport, Mbemba displayed poor behaviour towards a member of the club’s management, prompting the decision to sanction him, probably marking the end of his association with Marseille.

Mbemba has been a vital part of Marseille's squad since joining from FC Porto in 2022 and played a significant role in helping the team reach the semi-final of the Europa League last season.

However, his future at the club came into question following the appointment of new manager Roberto De Zerbi, who is reportedly not a fan of the Congolese defender.

Mbemba no longer key to Marseille

After De Zerbi's appointment, Mbemba was informed that he was no longer in the club's plans and was advised to find a new team.

Along with several other former key players, Mbemba was relegated to training with the reserves, a move he reportedly did not take well.

Mbemba has also recently starred for DR Congo in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, captaining his country as they reached the semifinals before losing to hosts and eventual champions Ivory Coast.

His performances for DR Congo and Marseille should be enough to help Mbemba secure a move before the summer transfer window close so he does not have to spend time in career limbo.
