AFC Leopards' Victor Omune has opened up on why is relationship with Gor Mahia tactician Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno at KCB nearly made him quit football.

AFC Leopards midfielder Victor Omune has revealed how he came close to quitting football during his time at KCB under the leadership of current Gor Mahia tactician Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno.

Omune joined KCB in 2019 when Otieno, then the head coach of the Bankers, hijacked his planned move from Nairobi Stima to City Stars.

However, what was supposed to be a promising career move quickly turned into a frustrating period for the Kenyan international.

"The funny thing is that after I left KCB, I had decided to quit football entirely," Omune shared in a recent episode of The Tiki Taka Show on YouTube.

Omune admitted that his struggles at KCB were largely due to his relationship with Otieno.

"I was so frustrated at KCB. I think it was just my relationship with Zede (Otieno). I can't say he is a bad coach, but we didn't clique," he stated.

The midfielder was particularly puzzled by the situation since it was Otieno who had actively sought him out for KCB.

"I failed to understand that because he was the one who sought me out," Omune added.

According to Omune, Otieno's management style made life difficult for him, eventually leading to his exit from KCB in 2021.

"He was everything and the sole decision-maker. I saw the position I was in and decided that my time was over," he remarked.

The turning point came after a heated conversation between the two.

"There was a time we had a conversation, and it did not go well. From there, the frustrations boiled over. He never told me what I did wrong. We just talked after a game, and tempers flared, but he is the one who knows what I did wrong," stated the Leopards midfielder.

After parting ways with KCB, Omune found a new home at AFC Leopards, where he has become a key player.

Now under the guidance of coach Fred Ambani, Omune is instrumental in Leopards' late push for the FKF Premier League title.

Leopards are set to face Otieno's Gor Mahia in the much-anticipated Mashemeji Derby on Sunday, a crucial fixture in their bid to close the gap on the league leaders.
