The club has expressed concern after one of their players was subjected to an ethnic attack.

AFC Leopards have threatened to take disciplinary action against one of their supporters following a derogatory comment against Peter Thiong’o.

Thiong’o was subjected to the comment by a club fan after he and Eugene Mukangula were stripped of their captaincy roles.

Leopards took action to dethrone the two after reports of go-slows at the club just before their match against Vihiga Bullets over the weekend.

Flowrence Maube described Thiong’o by his tribe, and Leopards have come out to condemn such comments.

"We at AFC Leopards Sports Club wish to express our utmost disappointment and strong condemnation of the remarks made by one Flowrence Maube on Facebook regarding one of our players," a statement by the club read.

"It is important to note that Flowrence Maube does not represent AFC Leopards in any capacity, and her opinions and statements do not reflect the values and beliefs of our esteemed football club.

"As a club, deeply rooted in the spirit of sportsmanship, fair play, and inclusivity, we are committed to upholding the values of respect, unity, and harmony within our footballing community. AFC Leopards is cherished and respected across Kenyan fraternity irrespective of religion, tribe, or any other inclination."

The local giants also promised to take action against Maube, which may include a stadium ban.

"It is disheartening to witness such derogatory comments being made towards our player, who has consistently displayed outstanding talent and dedication," it continued.

"We stand firmly against any form of discrimination, slander, or disrespectful behavior that tarnishes the integrity of the sports we love.

"In light of the inappropriate remarks, we want to assure the footballing community that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against Flowrence Maube, which may include a ban from attending our matches.

"If she were a member, we could have expelled her, as we take those remarks to be very serious."

Both Mukangula and Thiong’o could leave the club before the next Premier League campaign begins.
