Ingwe has missed out on signing a top Ugandan striker who has opted for Tanzanian club Simba over other offers.

A sought-after talent in the African football circuit Ugandan forward Steven Mukwala has reportedly chosen Tanzanian powerhouse Simba SC over FKF Premier League side AFC Leopards.

This development comes after Mukwala's contract with Ghanaian team Asante Kotoko came to an end sparking interest from several clubs across Africa.

Mukwala, who joined Asante Kotoko in 2022, had an impressive stint with the Ghanaian club, scoring 25 goals in 59 appearances.

His performance not only won him accolades but also caught the eye of several top clubs, including AFC Leopards, who were reported by a section of Ugandan media to be keen on bolstering their attack for the upcoming season.

Despite their interest, AFC Leopards have missed out on signing the prolific striker.

According to Ghanaian-based journalist Micky Junior, the deal with Simba is nearly complete.

"Steven Mukwala to Simba is almost done,” Micky Junior tweeted.

He further added that recent discussions between Simba’s scout, Mo Dewji, and the player have been fruitful, with a deal being close to finalization.

This news comes as a blow to AFC Leopards who have been actively looking to strengthen their squad after a disappointing season.

The Kenyan club had hoped that Mukwala’s addition would provide them with the firepower needed to compete at the top level of the Kenyan Premier League.

Mukwala's decision to choose Simba over other clubs was influenced by the Tanzanian club's consistent performance and their participation in international competitions.

Simba has a history of nurturing Ugandan talents, with former Uganda Cranes captain Emmanuel Okwi and midfielder Taddeo Lwanga having had successful spells at the club.

The forward had also attracted interest from other notable clubs including Moldovan champions Petro Club, Egyptian giants Zamalek, and Moroccan outfit Raja Casablanca.

Petro Club had even expressed their desire to have Mukwala lead their line in the UEFA Champions League.

However, Mukwala's preference for Simba was clear, as he expressed his desire to join the Tanzanian side.

AFC Leopards now must turn their attention to other potential targets to ensure they do not lag behind in their preparations for the next season.

The club's management will be under pressure to find a suitable replacement who can match the expectations and excitement that Mukwala would have brought to the team.
