Ingwe's plans were thrown into disarray after the previous occupant of the position resigned.

AFC Leopards have already kicked off the process of finding the next coach after Patrick Aussems abruptly resigned.

Expectations were that the Belgian would renew his contract with the Football Kenya Federation side, but he ended up confirming he would not. Now, the 1998 Premier League champions have confirmed they have started the process of appointing Aussems' successor.

"We take this opportunity to formally announce that head coach Patrick Aussems has made the difficult decision not to renew his contract due to health and private reasons that he has shared with the club's management," a statement signed by the club board members said.

"Aussems has been an integral part of our club, and we respect his personal circumstances that led to this conclusion. The club expresses its gratitude for his dedication, professionalism, and contributions to the team's progress.

"The process of appointing a new head coach is already underway, and we will provide further updates in due course.

The exit of the former AC Leopards coach was described as shocking given that he was expected to return and resume his roles at the den. His exit has opened a vacant position in the top-tier, and Ken Kenyatta of Talanta FC and Anthony 'Modo' Kimani, former Bandari head coach, have been linked with Ingwe.

Apart from AFC Leopards, Nzoia Sugar is another Premier League side set to have a new coach for the 2023–24 season. Salim Bbau has left the Sugar Millers and is expected to put pen to paper and serve as an assistant coach at Police FC.
