AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz face off in a crucial league match, aiming for victory in their intense rivalry clash.

AFC Leopards are set to renew their rivalry with Kakamega Homeboyz in a highly anticipated clash at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Sunday afternoon, a game that could significantly impact their positions in the league standings.

The encounter, scheduled to take place following their first leg match where Leopards emerged victorious with a 2-0 win at Nyayo National Stadium on December 17 last year, has fans and players on edge as both teams vie for crucial points.

Currently, AFC Leopards are positioned eighth in the league with 30 points, closely trailing Homeboyz, who hold the seventh spot with 32 points.

This match is not just about climbing up the ladder; it is a battle for supremacy and pride between two teams with a history of intense competition.

Ingwe's form coming into this match is nothing short of impressive. The team is riding a wave of confidence, remaining unbeaten in their last seven matches, including six consecutive wins that have propelled them up the standings.

Their last defeat dates back to December 10, facing a 2-1 loss against Bidco United at Sportpesa Arena in Murang’a County, with resilience and determination being key factors in their recent success.

AFC Leopards' coach, Tomas Trucha, emphasized the unpredictable nature of derby matches and the importance of being prepared.

"Don’t ask me where we find ourselves at the end of the league. The next game is Kakamega, Western Derby, and I hope the stadium will be fully packed. Derbies are unpredictable; you never know, so it is Western derby or Nairobi Derby, there is no favorite team, so we need to be ready," Trucha stated, highlighting the significance of the upcoming clash.

On the other side, Kakamega Homeboyz have faced challenges in maintaining their form. Before their 2-1 victory over KCB last weekend, Homeboyz struggled in five games, suffering four losses and managing only one draw.

This slump has raised concerns, especially considering their recent inability to find the back of the net in their last three home matches.

Homeboyz forward Kevin Amwayi, however, remains optimistic about their chances in the upcoming game.

"Whoever will win the midfield battle and take their chances early in the game will carry the day. In the first leg, we had a lot of injuries, and even I was out with an injury, but now my teammates are okay, and we will fight to bag all the three points," Amwayi told Nation Sport, signaling a rallying cry for his team.

The stakes are high, and the rivalry between AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz promises to deliver an electrifying match.

Both teams have their strengths and weaknesses, but it is clear that the team that can seize control of the midfield and capitalize on their opportunities will likely emerge victorious.
