Aussems saw his side thump Bandari to reach the FKF Cup semi-final but he seems not to have forgiven the federation for locking out the club’s fans

AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems has appeared to aim a dig at Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following the heavy sanctions imposed on the club over their abandoned match against Kakamega Homeboyz last month.

Aussems saw his team make it to the FKF Cup semi-final courtesy of a thumping 3-0 win over Bandari on Sunday, with Victor Omune, Jaffari Owiti, and Ndemi Keagan (own goal) scoring inside 25 minutes, to stay on course to winning the trophy for the first time since 2017.

Reaching the last four set up another tense match against Homeboyz and while celebrating the win, he aimed a thinly veiled attack at the federation for locking out the club’s fans from the match.

“Without being at the stadium because of wacky sanctions, we know that our fans are 300% behind us. It gives us even more motivation, concentration, and aggressiveness. Thanks to who is entitled,” Aussems posted on Twitter on Sunday evening.

It is a statement that could land the coach into further trouble given he is already the subject of a disciplinary probe after he was alleged to have ‘contributed to the chaos’ that led to the abandonment match at Bukhungu Stadium.

The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee docked Leopards three points while awarding Homeboyz the abandoned match and ordered the club to pay a Ksh500,000 fine besides catering for medical costs incurred by center referee Michael Obuya, who was beaten by irate fans.

Ingwe were also ordered to play their next four league matches behind closed doors while the FKF Disciplinary Committee opened proceedings into the conduct of Aussems and his assistant Lawrence Webo.

The matter is currently before the Sports Disputes Tribunal after Leopards appealed the sanctions which chairman Dan Shikanda termed unfair but the cold war between the federation and the club has been rumbling on since then.

Aussems will, however, be delighted to have seen his team make the statement victory, having failed to win their last six games which has seen his side slip from fifth on the table to ninth over that period.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, May 20 with the Cup winner set to represent Kenya in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup besides pocketing Ksh2 million.
