AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda hopes his experience in football administration will come in handy after declaring his candidature for the Nairobi NEC member seat in FFK elections.

AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda is counting on his experience in the game to elevate him to victory during the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections where he is running for a NEC seat.

Shikanda has thrown himself in the ring for the Nairobi National Executive Committee (NEC) member’s seat and will have to square it out with six other opponents, including incumbent Michael Majua, in what will be one of the hotly-contested seats.

“As someone who has been involved in Kenyan football for many years, I have seen both our strengths and our struggles. I understand what is required to bring about a new dawn in our industry,” Shikanda said in a statement.

“This journey is about ensuring a strong sustainable future for Kenyan football with transparency, inclusivity and progress guiding us forward.

“I stand here with a commitment to elevate the sport and with your support, I am ready to take on this role and work towards meaningful change.”

Besides Majua, Shikanda will also face off with Athanus Oballa, Simon Mugo, Isaac Macharia, James Masese and Daniel Ongware but he remains confident of a victory.

The former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards player is in his second and final term as Leopards chairman and seems to be preparing for life post-Ingwe but it is that role that he hopes will help him ascend to the NEC seat.

Shikanda believes he has seen and learnt enough to help him elevate the levels of Kenyan football if he is elected as the FKF NEC member for Nairobi.

“Kenyan football has the power to inspire, unite and shine on the international stage. With a renewed leadership team at FKF, I am confident we can build a federation that commands trust and drives genuine progress, attracting partnerships and opportunities that will take our players, our clubs and our national teams to new heights,” he added.

Ten NEC seats are being contested across the country, representing eight former provinces, although Rift Valley is split into two (Upper and Lower). The extra seat is reserved for the women's representative.
