AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has shared his thoughts on what Ingwe has to work on if they are to be among teams that will challenge for the FKF Premier League crown.

AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda wants the team to ensure they maintain consistency if they are to challenge and ultimately win the FKF Premier League title.

Leopards suffered their second defeat of the season when they were beaten 1-0 by Murang’a Seal on Wednesday, which leaves them fourth on the log on 10 points from six matches, four behind leaders KCB.

The defeat came after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Kariobangi Sharks and that is what is disappointing Shikanda as he feels they are dropping points against teams they should be beating.

“For us to be champions, for us to be somewhere next season, we really need to win our matches,” Shikanda told Pulse Sports.

“Last year was unfortunate, we had a lot of setbacks before we started the league but this time round under coach [Tomas] Trucha we have prepared well.

“We still have obstacles here and there like lack of proper playing fields on match days but we are focused and taking it one game at a time.”

Shikanda feels it is important to collect as many points as possible early in the season so that they are among the top three sides at the end of the first leg which will put them in good stead to challenge.

“If by the end of the first leg we are in the top three, we definitely have to go for it and make sure we challenge,” he added.

“We have a team to challenge. Still not much investment in the team not like Gor Mahia, Tusker, Bandari, Kenya Police and KCB but at least we have quite a team with some little depth that can challenge.”

Leopards, who also lost to Posta Rangers in their second match of the season, have won three games and still need a lot more to end their 26-year wait for a Premier League crown.

Scoring goals was a problem last season, and still look as an issue they will struggle with this term, as they have not been finding the target freely since their 4-0 thumping of Mathare United on the opening day.
