Although Trucha left the club a little over a week ago, the details over the mutual termination of his contract are yet to be finalised, which could have serious ramifications if not settled quicker.
AFC Leopards chairman Daniel Shikanda has shed light on the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Czech tactician Tomas Trucha's exit, acknowledging that his contract termination remains unresolved despite his departure over a week ago.
Shikanda, now serving as the Nairobi Region representative in the FKF National Executive Council (NEC), expressed optimism that an amicable solution will soon be reached.
“We will do our level best; we part mutually. The results are key. It’s unfortunate—it is not only the coach who churns out results,” Shikanda told Pulse Sports.

AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda on the strategy that won him Nairobi FKF NEC seat

Trucha’s tumultuous tenure
Trucha’s stint at the Den has been challenging this season, with the team securing just three wins in nine league matches. Although AFC Leopards began their campaign on a high note with a dominant 4-0 victory over Mathare United, momentum quickly fizzled.
Subsequent losses to Posta Rangers, Murang’a Seal, and Shabana, alongside the postponement of the much-anticipated Mashemeji Derby, put immense pressure on Trucha. The defeat to Shabana is widely regarded as the tipping point, leading to the coach stepping aside.
However, Trucha’s insistence on still being under contract has added complexity to the situation.
In comments to FlashScore, Trucha maintained that he remains bound by his contract. “I am sorry. I am still not free; I am still contracted to AFC Leopards,” he stated.
When asked about his absence from the game against Kenya Police, he clarified, “Because we agreed to part ways mutually, it is a procedure. So please just understand.” However, he refrained from elaborating on the procedural delays, adding to the speculation surrounding his exit.
“I did not leave yet. I am saying it is a procedure,” Trucha reiterated. On being pressed further, he deflected, suggesting that AFC Leopards officials would be better placed to provide clarity.
Shikanda, mindful of potential complications, emphasized the importance of maintaining respect between both parties to prevent the matter from escalating to FIFA.
“We respect him, he respects us, and we don't want a scenario where we are fighting and take these issues to FIFA,” he remarked.
The chairman also acknowledged the collective role of players, management, and technical staff in delivering results. However, he admitted that the coach often bears the brunt of responsibility during tough times.
As AFC Leopards seek stability amid this contractual quagmire, the focus will undoubtedly shift to rebuilding their campaign and addressing their league performance.
Whether Trucha’s situation is resolved amicably or requires further intervention, the club must find a way to regain its footing both on and off the pitch.
