AFC Leopards brace for KCB test as relegation battle heats up

Festus Chuma 08:30 - 19.06.2024

Leopards aim to rebound against KCB as teams like Shabana and Muhoroni fight to avoid relegation in intense FKFPL action.

All 18 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) teams will be in action in midweek signaling a crucial phase as the 2023/2024 season nears its climax.

With the league table tightly packed and relegation threats looming large, teams are set for a series of decisive clashes that could determine their fate in Kenya’s top-flight football.

In the thick of the relegation scrap, Muhoroni Youth currently 17th on the table with 28 points face a daunting task against Nzoia Sugar at Mumias Complex.

Nzoia Sugar may already be relegated but pride and the chance to impact the relegation battle could see them play spoilers.

Muhoroni Youth with just two games left and a desperate need for maximum points know that any slip-up could seal their fate.

Meanwhile, Nairobi City Stars will host Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium in another fixture critical to the relegation narrative.

Sofapaka sitting just above the relegation playoff zone at 16th with 32 points find themselves in a precarious position.

A win would not only boost their survival hopes but could also drag their rivals deeper into the relegation mire.

The battle for safety also involves Shabana, who are set to face Bidco United at Raila Odinga Stadium.

Positioned 15th and just outside the direct relegation zone, Shabana's situation is dire, making this encounter a must-win.

Bidco, comfortably in 10th place, have less at stake, but pride and professional integrity will ensure they are no easy opponents.

Amidst these high-stakes battles, AFC Leopards prepare to take on KCB at Dandora Stadium.

Leopards, currently in seventh place with 47 points, have had a rollercoaster season.

After a disappointing loss last weekend to Shabana, they are eager to return to winning ways.

With their eyes set on finishing the season on a high note, the match against KCB is more than just about points; it is about setting a tone for the next season.

In other matches, leaders Gor Mahia, who have already clinched the title, will play FC Talanta, while second-placed Tusker FC aim to solidify their position with a victory over Posta Rangers at Thika Stadium.

Tusker’s pursuit is critical as they look to fend off Kenya Police, who sit just four points behind in third.

Kenya Police themselves have a tough encounter against Bandari FC at Police Sacco Stadium.

With both teams locked at 55 and 48 points respectively this match could significantly shuffle the mid-table positions.
