AFC Leopards aim to maintain winning momentum as they eye Bidco United's scalp

AFC Leopards hope to maintain their winning momentum when they face Bidco United in Machakos on Sunday.

AFC Leopards will be hoping they can maintain their winning momentum when they host Bidco United in an FKFPL match set to be played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos from 3:00 PM.

Ingwe, who have been on a brilliant run of form for most of 2024, have been one of the highlights of the season. Having initially struggled when Tomas Trucha took over as head coach, a win over Kakamega Homeboyz last December opened the way for the start of a good run of form.

In fact, since the start of 2024,  they have been unbeaten in 15 of the 17 games they have played this season both in the league and the cup. As they prepare for the semi-finals against Police next week, they know a win over Bidco will be a confidence booster as they seek to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup for next season.

Leopards have been imperious at set-piece situations, an extra weapon on their arsenal which has made them the side that have been the most prolific from such situations. They have found the back of the net seven times.

However, they are a very direct side as well, but their midblock line of engagement means that Bidco, who like to use their pace on the counter attack using their gifted and tricky wingers, might not get the space they need to cause damage in behind.

However, that could still be undone by the trickery of starman Chris Opondo, who is brilliant at creating one v one situations from the flanks with his unpredictable dribbling, so the enthusiastic Vincent Mahiga will have to track his runs.

However, Leopards can rely on their direct wingers Hassan Beja and Jaffari Owiti to help pin back Bidco, with Rwandese Striker Arthur Gitego being a presence upfront. It remains to be seen whether Trucha will rest Kayci Odhiambo and the on-form Brian Wanyama for Musa Oundo and Boniface Kweyu in midfield, with the game against Police on Saturday in mind.

Elsewhere, Bandari will be taking on Sofapaka at the Ukunda Stadium in Mombasa hoping their winless run of six games can come to an end so they can hit the 50-point mark.

Bandari have been profligate since the end of the March international break, which has seen them fall off the title race. They can still finish as high as possible, but know it will not be easy against a Sofapaka side who want to avoid relegation.

Ulinzi Stars will be battling Murang’a Seal  in Lang’ata. FC Talanta will take on KCB, while already-relegated Nzoia Sugar will host Nairobi City Stars in Bungoma.
