‘Batoto ba Mungu’ were close to sealing all the points but succumbed to late pressure from the soldiers
A missed penalty and late goal characterised Sofapaka’s meeting with Ulinzi Stars which ended 2-2 during a Football Kenya Federation (FKF-PL) match on Wednesday.
Ulinzi started brightly when Stafford Odhiambo gave them a 10th minute lead and should have added onto their tally were it not for some poor finishing.
A beautiful pass from Bernard Ongoma from the midfielder to Stephen Etyang saw the latter deliver a brilliant ball in for Odhiambo who finished with aplomb for the soldiers.
That was two minutes after Odhiambo came close to breaking the deadlock when Ongoma teed him up but he took long to take his short, allowing the Sofapaka defenders to close in.
Sofapaka, however, equalised in the 31st minute when Evans Maliachi curled in a brilliant free-kick and the home side should have extended the break when they were handed an opportunity from the spot. However, Roddy Manga saw his penalty saved by Sylvaine 'Sule' Omondi in the Ulinzi goal.
‘Batoto ba Mungu’ then thought they had the last laugh when Ikekhai Sunday finished off Maliachi’s pass in the 60th minute but Ulinzi would respond eight minutes from time through Enosh Ochieng for a share of the spoils.
The draw sees Ulinzi remain in eighth position on the table on 34 points while Sofapaka are still 12th, seven points behind.
