Akinlade in March, bought a 55% majority stake to take control of the second-division Danish club.

Sporting Lagos owner Shola Akinlade has visited his new acquisition in Denmark Aarhus Fremad, as part of a first-time meet with the club's fans.

The Nigerian billionaire who co-founded tech giants Paystack, in March, bought a 55% majority stake to take control of the second-division Danish club.

Akinlade engages excited Aarhus Fremad fans

After his recent acquisition of the club, the 38-year-old met an eager community who hope things work well.

Shola Akinlade is one of an elite list of Nigerians to own a Nigerian and a European club

On Monday, as the team played against FC Roskilde, Akinlade, accompanied by members of the Sporting Lagos board, Fola Olatunji-David, Ekene Agu and coach Paul Aigbogun, shook hands with the fans who came to him, many happy to finally meet their new owner.

According to Nigerian journalist Lolade Adewuyi, a young fan asked Akinlade why he bought the this club, “Why not,” the buisnessman replied, “I think there’s so much we can learn from each other.”

Other young fans celebrated his visit with drums and a chorus, “We love you Shola, we do, we love you Shola, we do, oooh Shola we love you!”

Aarhus Fremad edging closer to promotion

As it stands, Aarhus Fremad are in second place on the second division table, the third tier of Danish football.

They will go into a play-off of the top six teams, where two teams will gain promotion into the first division, just below the Superliga.

Their fans will yearn for a return to their best years, which were spent competing in the Superliga from 1997 to 1999.
