Ex-Super Eagles forward retires
The winger, who earned seven caps for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, scored two goals for his country, including a memorable strike in a 2-2 draw against South Africa in 2014.
Aluko's decision to retire comes after a challenging campaign with Ipswich Town, where he struggled for game time despite the club's historic return to the Premier League after back-to-back promotions.
In a statement released by the player, Aluko expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he had throughout his career and the support he received from fans and teammates.
"The opening words from our CEO @markaashton , followed by these 1s from the manager and then the reaction to my speech from my teamates, colleagues and audience will always stay with me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart"
Aluko's career was marked by his versatility, technical ability, and goal-scoring prowess. He made over 400 appearances in professional football, scoring 55 goals.
The Nigerian's retirement will undoubtedly be met with sadness by fans of the clubs he represented, but his legacy as a skilled and influential player will undoubtedly live on.
