5. Consistency over multiple seasons

When Sserunkuma joined Gor Mahia in 2012, he wasted no time in proving his worth.

Throughout his stint with the club from 2012 to 2014, he consistently delivered, averaging double-digit goal tallies each season.

In his debut season, he scored an impressive 17 league goals, earning the KPL Best Player award as Gor Mahia narrowly missed out on the title.

He followed that up with eight league goals and five in other competitions in 2013 before hitting his peak in 2014. That year, he clinched the Golden Boot with 16 league goals, leading K’Ogalo to the title.

His ability to maintain top form season after season made him a dependable force for Gor Mahia and a nightmare for defenders across the league.

4. A big game player

Sserunkuma never shied away from the spotlight, particularly in high-stakes matches.

Whether it was a title decider or the Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards, he was always up for the challenge.

His name is etched in the derby’s history books, as he ranks joint-first with Sammy Onyango for the most goals in the fixture (six).

One of his most iconic moments came during a heated title race when he inspired Gor Mahia’s comeback from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw against Ingwe, a result that proved crucial in their eventual title win.

When the pressure was on, Sserunkuma delivered, an invaluable trait for any top striker.

3. Exceptional goal-scoring ability

A striker’s primary job is to score goals, and during his time in the Kenyan Premier League, nobody did it better than Danny Sserunkuma.

His lethal finishing was instrumental in Gor Mahia’s success, especially in their title-winning campaigns.

In 2014, he finished as the league’s top scorer with 16 goals. According to Gor Mahia Net , this accounted for 40% of Gor Mahia’s total goals that season.

In total, he netted 49 goals for Gor Mahia between 2012 and 2014, cementing his legacy as one of the most prolific strikers in the club’s history.

2. Versatility and tactical flexibility

Sserunkuma was not just a goal poacher, he was a well-rounded forward who could be deployed in various roles.

While he often played as the main striker, he also adapted seamlessly to different tactical setups.

Whether partnered with another forward, operating as a lone striker, or dropping deeper to link up play, he remained effective.

Under then-coach Zdravko Logarusic, his ability to adjust to different playing styles and teammates made him invaluable to the team.

1. Delivering trophies

Before Sserunkuma’s arrival, Gor Mahia had endured an 18-year title drought. By the midway point of the 2013 season, they were leading the league, but a poor run of form saw arch-rivals AFC Leopards close the gap.

At this critical moment, Sserunkuma stepped up. He scored in a crucial 2-2 draw against AFC Leopards, ensuring Gor Mahia maintained their lead.

He then went on a scoring spree, netting in wins against Chemelil, Mathare, Thika, and Sofapaka, sealing Gor Mahia’s long-awaited league triumph.

His heroics laid the foundation for a historic three-peat, with Gor Mahia winning the league again in 2014 and 2015.

Danny Sserunkuma’s impact at Gor Mahia extends beyond his goal tally. His contributions set the gold standard for any striker donning the famous green jersey.

To this day, Gor Mahia’s forwards are measured against his legacy, making him the ultimate benchmark for the club’s strikers.
