Liverpool could be set for a shock capture of Kylian Mbappe and there are three main reasons why the transfer will be perfect for the French superstar
Paris Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has been linked with a shock move to the Premier League with Liverpool, but despite the sensational nature of the transfer saga, this could be the perfect solution for all parties involved.
Mbappe’s decision to inform PSG that he would not be extending his contract beyond 2024 sparked the biggest transfer saga of the 2023 summer, with Les Parisiens insisting on selling the French forward while the 24-year-old remains keen on staying at the club.
PSG have been unable to get Mbappe to budge on his position, especially seeing as the Frenchman’s main suitors, Real Madrid, appear only interested in a free transfer next summer as opposed to paying Les Parisiens’ asking price of €180 million.
With PSG threatening to keep Mbappe off the field if he insists on staying in France, and a bid for a permanent transfer unlikely to come from Real Madrid, a temporary move to Liverpool could be the best solution for all parties.
Here are three important reasons why the move should happen.
A chance to join Real Madrid next season
The proposed move to Liverpool is on loan and could serve the French striker well, as he will still get to leave PSG for free next season.
The forward’s preferred move is to record UEFA Champions League holders Real Madrid and PSG believe that Mbappe already has a deal in place with the Spanish giants to join them next summer for free, hence his insistence on not signing a new contract with Les Parisiens.
If PSG’s inclinations are correct, then Mbappe would be seeking a move to a club where he can get ample playing time at a high level, while also keeping his options open for a summer move to Spain.
With PSG willing to bench Mbappe for the rest of the 2023/24 season and a move to Al-Hilal likely to see him drop a level, a move to Liverpool would see him get the best of both worlds, with Les Parisiens also getting some money in a loan fee instead of losing their prized possession entirely for free.
His mother is a fan of the club
Mbappe’s links to Liverpool started long before this summer and the striker has previously spoken to the Reds with a move to Merseyside on the cards before he joined PSG.
The France national team captain has praised Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in the past and has also spoken about his mother’s admiration for the Reds previously, noting how close he was to joining them.
Mbappe told the Telegraph, "We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit. I talked to Liverpool because it's the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool.
"I don't know why, you will have to ask her! It's a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco, I met them. It's a big club."
With a move to Liverpool, Mbappe could fulfil his mother, Fayza Lamari’s dream of seeing him play for the Reds even if shortlived.
This could be a driving force for Mbappe’s rumoured move to Liverpool as his mother doubles as his agent and would be inclined to facilitate a move for her son to her favourite club.
The allure of playing in the Premier League
Few players can refuse a chance to play in the media-savvy Premier League, and there is little reason why Mbappe should turn down a move to the star-studded league either.
The French striker will get to play at the highest level in the highest-rated league in Europe with the largest viewership and followership in world football.
If Mbappe is able to replicate his Ligue 1 form in the Premier League, he could see his reputation as one of, if not THE, best player in the world rise even further, silencing what little doubters he still has.
The superstar forward could also enjoy a significant payday if he negotiates a lucrative image rights deal in his contract, as he will have more leverage with sponsors by being in a more publicised league than France’s Ligue 1.
Liverpool’s reported interest in Mbappe will be the biggest test of the Frenchman’s will to see out his contract at PSG as he has previously promised, and it would be in the best interest of all parties if a deal with the Reds is struck.
