23-year-old Super Eagles 'hero' against Libya Dele-Bashiru inspires Lazio to Europa League summit

Nigeria and Super Eagles star Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was in fine form as Lazio made it three wins in three in the Europa League.

Nigeria and Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was instrumental in Lazio's continued success in the Europa League, helping the Italian side secure a 2-0 victory against FC Twente. 

This win marks Lazio's third consecutive victory in the competition, maintaining their perfect record and placing them at the top of the group standings.

The 23-year-old Nigerian international dubbed the next Jay Jay Okocha received his first start since October 3, when he played against OGC Nice also in the Europa League. 

Dele-Bashiru made an immediate impact, showcasing a complete midfield performance that culminated in a crucial assist for the match-winner, scored by Gustav Isaksen just three minutes before the final whistle.

Nigeria’s Dele-Bashiru demonstrated exceptional skill and composure throughout the match, completing an impressive 96% of his passes. 

He also created one significant chance that led directly to Isaksen's goal, executed all his long balls successfully, and contributed defensively with six recoveries and one interception.

His performance was particularly notable given his previous heroics for the Super Eagles against Libya in Uyo during the AFCONQ2025 qualifiers, where he netted the decisive winner in a 1-0 win.

This victory not only solidifies Lazio's position at the summit of their Europa League group but also highlights Dele-Bashiru's growing influence within the squad as they aim for European success this season.
