Odada gets one over his Harambee Stars teammate Jonah Ayunga as Dundee United narrowly edge out Saint Mirren in Scottish Premiership encounter.

Richard Odada and Jonah Ayunga were both unused substitutes as Dundee United narrowly beat St Mirren 1-0 in a closely contested Scottish Premiership match on Saturday night.

Odada, who joined Dundee United earlier this season, has seen limited game time, featuring in just two matches since his arrival.

Similarly, Ayunga was left to watch from the bench as his side struggled to find a breakthrough before Emmanuel Adegboyega's second-half goal sealed the win for Dundee United.

Odada’s exclusion marks the sixth consecutive game where the Kenyan midfielder has been benched without seeing any action, raising concerns about his limited role in Jim Goodwin’s squad.

Despite his potential, the midfielder's services were not required as Dundee United managed to grind out the victory. Likewise, Ayunga was left sidelined during what turned out to be a frustrating night for his team, St Mirren.

The match itself was far from a spectacle, with both teams lacking quality in the final third. However, Adegboyega, on loan from Norwich City, salvaged the result for Dundee United with a decisive goal in the 75th minute.

The defender pounced on a rebound after St Mirren goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe parried Ross Docherty's shot, heading home the winner much to the delight of the travelling Dundee fans.

For Odada, watching from the sidelines while his team put in a gritty performance to maintain their impressive start to the season may have been bittersweet. Dundee United are now fifth in the Scottish Premiership, with 12 points from seven matches, going into the international break. However, the Kenyan international will be eager for more playing time to prove his worth.

Ayunga, who also watched the match from the bench, could not influence proceedings as St Mirren struggled to convert their chances.

The Saints created better opportunities throughout the game, with the likes of Caolan Boyd-Munce and Toyosi Olusanya both coming close, only to be denied by some excellent saves from Dundee United’s goalkeeper Jack Walton.

St Mirren, who had started the match brightly, missed several chances to take the lead. An early acrobatic effort from Richard Taylor and a powerful long-range shot from Boyd-Munce were among the highlights of their attack, but their wastefulness in front of goal ultimately cost them the match.

In the end, Dundee United’s tactical switch to a 4-3-3 formation in the second half gave them more control and allowed them to break the deadlock. However, for Odada and Ayunga, their roles as spectators in the match will have left them eager to impress and secure more game time when club football resumes after the international break.
