The Ingwe midfielder is in camp ahead of Kenya’s friendly against Iran.
AFC Leopards midfielder Victor Omune has explained why he respects Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga.
Both are in the Harambee Stars camp, preparing for an international friendly against Iran on Tuesday, March 28. Omune and Olunga – a former J1 League Golden Boot winner – grew up together.
"It is a good feeling and a privilege. Every player always plays with the aim of playing for the national team," Omune, who received his first Harambee Stars call-up from head coach Engin Firat, said.
"The camp is good because many of the players are those that we’ve known one another having played together before.
"In Kenya, the players I have grown up with include Olunga, as he is among the players with whom I have been friends since our school days.
"He is a very disciplined player and loves working hard," concluded Omune.
Being his first call-up, Omune will face stiff competition from experienced midfielders on the national side. Kenneth Muguna of Azam FC, Amos Nondi of Ararat, and Abdallah Hassan of Bandari are among the most experienced midfielders in Firat’s provisional team.
The number of midfielders in the camp decreased with the exits of Hassan Beja and James Mwangi of Nzoia Sugar.
Apart from Omune, other players who received their debut call-ups are Bryne Omondi of KCB, Alpha Onyango of Gor Mahia, and Kenya Police FC’s Alvin Mang’eni.
