The friendly was set to be played at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.
Gor Mahia’s intended friendly game with Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC has been cancelled.
The record Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions were scheduled to face Azam in an exhibition game on Sunday in Nairobi.
According to a statement posted on Azam FC’s website, the club said that the management thought it was not a good idea for the team to travel for the friendly at this time of the season.
“Due to security reasons, we have cancelled our trip to Nairobi, Kenya, to play against Gor Mahia this Sunday.
Gor Mahia invited us to the friendly international game scheduled for Nyayo Stadium in the city.
However, our next game against JKU of Zanzibar, scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Azam Complex Stadium at 1.00 pm, will be there as usual,” Azam wrote.
However, Pulse Sports understands that FKF cancelled the match as the two clubs had reached an agreement without informing the governing body.
Azam agreed to travel to Nairobi before their Tanzanian Premier League match against Mtimbwa Sugar.
Gor Mahia was using the friendly to gauge their squad ahead of the domestic league resumption.
Jonathan McKinstry's charges are set to play against Vihiga Bullets on March 29 at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
K'Ogalo are currently on top of the league standings with 42 points from 20 matches played this season.
Azam, on their side, are fourth on their domestic league table with 47 points from 25 points as they seek a top-three finish to feature in next season's continental competitions.
