Fans had questioned why Fidel Origa was not selected for the Harambee Stars squad to take on Iran.
Bandari FC head coach Anthony Modo Kimani has revealed that combative midfielder Fidel Origa was in the plans of Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat for this month’s friendly against Iran.
The 22-year-old has been in tremendous form at the Dockers this season and has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the local league.
For all cries about Origa’s surprise omission, Kimani explained that the former Wazito FC star sustained an injury before the Harambee Stars provisional squad for the Iran friendly was made public.
“I am delighted, same as for the rest of the Bandari family, as it has been a long time since we had three players being called to the national team. We have often been having only Abdallah Hassan and sometimes Siraj.
Now we have three players in the national team, and there is another one who could have been named, but he got an injury, and that is Fidel Origa,” he disclosed.
Bandari has three players, Andrew Juma, Mohamed Siraj, and Abdallah Hassan, in the squad that reported for residential camp in Nairobi on Friday.
“The call-ups mean that my boys are improving, which should motivate them to work hard and thus help the team improve.
The friendly against Iran will help our boys as we have not been in action internationally for over one year. The match will also help coach Engin Firat to watch and learn the local and international players in the squad to strengthen the national team,” Kimani added.
Fidel joined Bandari FC in July 2022 from another Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Wazito FC on a three-year contract.
He left Wazito after two seasons, having joined the side from Western Stima in the 2020 transfer window.
Origa previously turned out for Kariobangi Sharks before joining Western Stima and has ten caps for the Under-17 and Under-20 national teams.
