This is the third straight loss for the Kakamega-based side.

Kakamega Homeboyz suffered their seventh defeat of the season in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) when they succumbed to a 3-1 loss to Sofapaka on Thursday evening.

It took David Ouma’s charges just two minutes to make their intentions clear in front of the home crowd.

Their opening goal came through the boot of in-form young striker Roddy Manga. The Congolese intercepted a sideways pass before shooting low into the bottom right.

Homeboyz then controlled the match in search of an equalizer with Moses Mudavadi seeing a lot of the ball in the hosts' half and the former Green Commandos attacker’s headed effort was cleared off the goal-line before Kevin Amwayi fired over the crossbar from the rebound.

Collins Odhiambo’s attempt from a free-kick was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Simon Masaka, who also gathered a long-range shot from Hillary Wandera and the score was 1-0 at the interval.

Patrick Odhiambo introduced Benson Mutonyi prior to the start of the second half and the combative midfielder nearly made an immediate impact as his well-taken shot was brilliantly saved by Simon Masaka.

Homeboyz came closer to getting an equalizer on the run of play after Brian Chala played a quality cross for Moses Mudavadi, whose header hit the crossbar with goalkeeper Masaka rooted to the ground.

Sofapaka then upped the tempo and they extended their lead in the 55th minute when Sunday Ikhekhai nodded home Stanely Omondi’s corner to make it 2-0.

Batoto ba Mungu were under siege with the hour mark approaching and they should have conceded a goal when Brian Chala set up Amwayi who missed a sitter from close range with goalkeeper Masaka caught off his goal-line.

Homeboyz were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute when Simon Ambuko handled the ball in the area. Experienced defender Hillary Wandera converted the resultant penalty to make it 2-1.

Four minutes later the action was at the other end when Roddy Managa was brought inside the box by Hillary Wandera. Ambuko made no mistake from the spot kick and he beat Wanzala to make it 3-1 for Sofapaka.

Homeboyz came very close to scoring a second in the 77th minute as Collins Odhiambo's thunderous long-range effort beat Masaka only for the upright to come to Batoto ba Mungu’s rescue.

In the 84th minute Sofapaka played on the counterattack with Alex Imbusia making dangerous forward runs. The 26-year-old striker made a brilliant solo run, outpacing his marker, but he was let down by his poor finishing - firing wide of the target from a one-on-one situation with Ibrahim Wanzala.
