The midfielder has witnessed limited game time this year.

Kenyan international Kenneth Muguna was missing in action as his Azam FC side suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Ihefu FC in a Tanzania Premier League match on Monday afternoon.

The former Gor Mahia skipper was not named in the 20-man match-day squad as his side missed a chance to move to third spot on the league standings.

Tanzanian midfielder Raphael Roth scored the all-important goal when he headed home from Never Tigere’s free frick in the first stanza.

Muguna’s name last appeared on the club's match list on Wednesday 15 February when the Ice Cream Makers played against Zanzibar’s Mlandege FC in a friendly.

Under the tutelage of Dani Cadena, Muguna has been hardly given a chance to play with his contract set to expire in July this year.

Muguna joined Azam from Gor Mahia in July 2021 when the club was under Zambian coach George Lwandamina.

Azam was reported to have paid a total signing fee of $50,000 then about (Ksh5.4 million) to complete the deal.

The midfielder had previously played for Western Stima, where he won the 2016 KPL Player of the Year Award before being snapped up by Gor Mahia.

In 2018, Muguna left the record Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions to join KF Tirana of Albania.

He failed to make a name with the Albanian side that was then under the tutelage of former Gor Mahia coach Ze Maria and returned to Gor.

Azam FC are currently fourth on the log with 47 points after 25 rounds of matches and are scheduled to face Mtimbwa Sugar in their next league match on Wednesday.
