The tournament is set to kick off this weekend with 32 teams taking part in this edition.
For the next three years, the face of the FKF Cup is set to change as the tournament which dates back to 1956 has landed Mozzart Bet as the new title sponsor.
This is after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and Mozzart Bet announced a partnership that will see the sports gaming company sponsor the tournament for a period of three years.
The tournament will now be known as the Mozzart Bet Cup, with the first matches set to be played on Saturday 4 March, with 32 teams from all the tiers of Kenyan football expected to feature.
The tournament has gone through years of change, with the most nostalgic years being the 80’s when the tournament was known as the Moi Golden Cup.
It underwent more and more metamorphosis until 2008, when it was rebranded to the FKL Cup, and was later renamed Gotv Shield six years ago before reverting back to FKF Cup.
In May 2018 the tournament was named SportPesa Shiled before the company pulled out owing to a licensing issue with the government.
Betway, which is also a betting firm, previously sponsored the domestic cup on a three year deal that ended unceremoniously following the government's interference in running of football in the country.
“We are grateful for the belief Mozzart has shown in football, especially at this time, when football was without any commercial partners. This partnership marks the first step towards rebuilding the football brand, after the lifting of the FIFA suspension,” said FKF CEO Barry Otieno said during the launch.
The draw for this season's competition was done on Thursday 2 February with 32 teams set to face off in the preliminary round.
Holders Gor Mahia, last edition's runners-up AFC Leopards, FKF Premier League champions Tusker are among top tier sides that will take part in the competition.
