Hong Kong won the toss and elected to bat, posting 68 all out as Uganda put up a good display in the field.

The Victoria Pearls can now afford a smile after they managed a three-wicket win over Hong Kong on Thursday at the ongoing Capricon Eagles Quadrangular Series in Namibia.

Hong Kong won the toss and elected to bat, posting 68 all out as Uganda put up a good display in the field.

Captain Consy Aweko led by example, picking up 3(10), while Evelyn Anyipo picked up 2(14).

Kary Chan was the only player in double figures with 17(28) until Immaculate Nakyisuuyi and Kevin Awino run her out.

The chase saw Phiona Egaru Kulume pick up 15(21) while Janet Mbabazi 11(18) and Rita Musamali 10(14) also put in a good shift as Uganda managed 72/7 in 14 overs to win by three wickets.

Assistant coach Lawrence Sematimba wasn’t pleased with the performance despite the win.

“We didn’t field well, the team wasn’t active in fielding, we also didn’t bat well, I don’t know why the team wasn’t in good spirits but hopefully they do better in the next games,” Ssematimba noted.

Aweko says limiting Hong Kong from making many boundaries was key but they have to improve on the batting.

“We tried to limit them from making more boundaries which I think was key but our batting wasn’t good, hopefully we improve in the next games,” Aweko noted.

The win was Uganda’s first at the invitational series, having lost to the United Arab Emirates by 50 runs in the first game.

It was also Uganda’s first ever victory since winning the Victoria series tournament in Kampala earlier this month.

The Pearls return to action on Saturday with two games, first against UAE in the morning and against Namibia in the afternoon.
