In the first game (against the UAE), Uganda won the toss and elected to bat, putting on 159/3 in 20 overs.

The Victoria Pearls were a bag of mixed fortune on Saturday as they won one and lost the other in the games at the Capricorn Eagles Quadrangular Series.

In the first game (against the UAE), Uganda won the toss and elected to bat, putting on 159/3 in 20 overs.

Proscovia Alako exploded with a solid 85 off 55, which included ten fours and two sixes.

The opener got support from Janet Mbabazi, who added 30(41), Stephanie Nampiina, 28(23) and Immaculate Nakyisuuyi, 14(6).

Kavisha Kumari led UAE’s chase with 51(52) while Esha Oza and Theertha Satish managed 36(38) and 22(16), respectively, but the Gulf nation was limited to 130/4 in 20 overs, giving Uganda a 29-run win.

The afternoon game saw the Pearls return to the crease to face Namibia, but it wasn’t to be.

Namibia won the toss and elected to bat and were limited to 94 all out in 19 overs.

The Victoria Pearls fielded well, with Stephanie Nampiina picking up four wickets for 15 runs, while Irene Alumo and Sarah Akiteng each managed two wickets.

Wilka Mwatile led the Namibians with the bat posting 23(9), Sune Wittmann 13(17) and Yasmeen Khan 13(22), while Adri Van Der Merwe added 11 runs.

Uganda’s chase was led by Patricia Malemikia 16(13), Stephanie Nampiina 14(14), along with Proscovia Alako and Rita Musamali, who each had 11 runs.

Uganda was limited by Arrasta Diergaardt, who picked up three wickets for 13 runs, and Kayleen Green, who picked up two wickets for 22 runs, cleaning out the Pearls for 86, and Ugandans fell short by eight runs.

Assistant captain Janet Mbabazi says her side came to the party in the first game but switched off in the second.

“In the morning, we came prepared to take on a challenge; the bat ladies came to the party, Proscovia, Nampiina, and myself put something on board,” Mbabazi told Uganda Cricket Media.

“For the afternoon game, though, the bowlers did well, but we lost it during the chase; we lost a couple of wickets, so hopefully tomorrow we will come back better."

The Victoria Pearls return to action on Sunday to face Hong Kong.
