Nsubuga, 43, believes it is still possible for Uganda to qualify for the men's Cricket World Cup, especially with the younger generation.

Veteran bowler Frank 'Franco' Nsubuga needs no introduction to Ugandan cricket, having played for the Cricket Cranes for 26 years! Yes, 26.

Nsubuga, 43, believes it is still possible for Uganda to qualify for the men's Cricket World Cup, especially with the younger generation.

The veteran off-spinning allrounder was one of the cricket legends who had the privilege of welcoming the Cricket World Cup trophy when it visited Kyambogo Cricket Oval on Sunday for fans to have experience with it.

"All the young players were excited to see the trophy here; it's a huge motivating factor and inspiration, and I am certain Uganda can still play at the World Cup," Franco told Pulse Sports.

"We (Cricket Cranes) exited the qualifiers in Jersey by a net run rate. It shows how much effort we put in, and I am doing my best to prepare the young ones, both the boys and girls."

The soft-spoken brother to batsman Roger Mukasa credited head coach Laurence Mahatlane for mixing up the team with the young vets as he builds the team's future.

"The coach (Mahatlane) has done well with mixing the team up; the young players have been able to learn; in my case, Siraje Nsubuga and Frank Akankwasa have mastered my moves."

"My life has been cricket, having played 26 years for the national team, and the young ones also have a chance, but they just have to be disciplined on and off the field."

Franco Nsubuga has been part of several near-miss qualification campaigns with the Cricket Cranes for the men's World Cup, with the most recent exit coming in 2022 when Uganda exited the qualifiers in the Challenge League B in Jersey.
