CRICKET Sikh Union stun Swamibapa as Stray Lions maul Cutchi Leva in NPCA 50-Overs League

The Sikhs were no match for the Swamis in the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association clash as the race for the title hots up.

The second leg of the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) 50-Overs League started off on a scintillating note with Sikh Union A racking up the competition’s biggest upset so far.

Contrary to expectations, the Sikhs handed Swamibapa A a 17-run blow to register their third win of the season in the Super Division.

Swamibapa won the toss and elected to field first in a match hosted by Sikh Union.

In their innings, the Sikhs set a decent target 253 for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing the target, the Rushab Patel-led Swamibapa side were bowled out for 236 in 48.4 overs, handing Sikh Union an emphatic victory.

Sikh Union's batting duo of Jasraj Kundi and Rohit Sahu were the match's highest scorers with 59 and 53 runs respectively.

At Nairobi Jaffrey's, Ifran Karim notched up a well-crafted 76-runs to enable Stray Lions 'A beat Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj (SCLPS) YL 'A' by 9 wickets.

The Lions won the toss and elected to field first. Cutchi Leva managed a paltry 154 all out in 31.1 overs with Ravi Rabadia being the team’s top scorer with 87 made up of 8 boundaries and 4 sixes.

Chasing the target, the Lions hit 154 for the loss of one wicket to seal the win in 26.1 overs, and in the process, began a spirited comeback for the wounded Lions, themselves former NPCA champions.

Gerald Maina was the toast of Stray Lions A team with five wickets to his credit.

"We are building a team for the future and I am glad that our youngsters are coming up really well. It's such a great feeling to defeat Cutchi Leva given that they had beaten us in the first leg," said Stray Lions chairman and team principal Thota Sreenivas, who is also the NPCA vice chairman.

Meanwhile, Obuya Cricket Academy A played their hearts out before going down by six wickets to Kanbis in another Super Division match at Lenana School. Kanbis won the toss and elected to field first.

Earlier in the match, Obuya's top order batsman and skipper Collins Obuya was caught out by Rakep Patel after he had only smacked a cool 37. Collins has always scored decently whenever he stays longer on the crease.

Kanbis' Jignesh Kerai and Rakep chalked up 88 and 69 runs respectively in a Super Division weekend devoid of centuries.

Elsewhere, unbeaten leaders Ruaraka A started off the second leg of the league in ruthless fashion after they handed Nairobi Gymkhana a 68-run thrashing.

Pushkar Sharma and Sachin Gill were at it again for the winners, the former hitting 43 off 79 deliveries while the latter crafted a run-a-ball 42, to see their side home and dry, and in continue to tighten their grip on the coveted 50 overs NPCA title.
