The team was boosted with the addition of the Cricket Cranes head coach Lawrence Mahatlane who has been helping sharpen the squad ahead of the upcoming tournament.

Victoria Pearls captain Consy Aweko has welcomed the development, saying Mahtlane brings a lot to the team, especially the game approach and individual player development.

Victoria Series: Captain Aweko raring to go

Victoria Pearls captain Consy Aweko is optimistic about her side putting a spirited display when the Victoria Series gets underway next week at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

"It is good to see that he (Laurence Mahatlane) has spared time for us too; he has brought a lot of positive changes like game plans and our game approach," Aweko told Pulse Sports.

"He has gone beyond helping us develop as players, but also helped us individually,” she added.

Aweko expects her team to rely on the backing in the stands because it would help morale boost the team to do better.

"The team is set, we have been working on our fitness, skills and character since January, but we need the fans.”

"We have played in other countries like Nepal, Kenya and Rwanda, and their fans are always behind them, so that's the atmosphere we need because it will market our game but mainly earn us more trust."

The Victoria Pearls are up against the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania in the Victoria Series, which will run from April 18th to 23rd at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Winning the tournament will earn Victoria Pearls an improved ranking as they prepare for the Africa World Cup Qualifiers, which Uganda will host in September.
