Oleksandr Usyk defeats Tyson Fury to win undisputed heavyweight title in Saudi Arabia
In Saudi Arabia, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia to win the undisputed heavyweight title.
During his planned post-fight media scrum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Usyk was conspicuously absent.
Usyk suffers broken jaw
Usyk broke his jaw during the bout, and promoter Frank Warren told the media that he was taken to the hospital right away.
Given that Usyk delivered the stronger strikes—especially in Round 9, when he surrounded Fury to score the fight's only knockdown—it was an unexpected announcement.
It was the first undisputed heavyweight title match in 25 years, and it lived up to the hype.
Before Fury grabbed control of the middle frames with pinpoint accuracy punches that injured Usyk, the first few rounds were competitive.
In Round 7, the Ukrainian fighter reversed the course of events. In Round 9, he gained the upper hand by knocking out the unbeaten champion almost completely.
In the end, Usyk prevailed in an exciting split decision, scoring 115–112, 113–114, and 114–113.
Usyk is pleased that Fury will fulfill his contractual obligation to reschedule.
Usyk vs. Fury 2 has no set date, however, October 2024 had previously been suggested by Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia's general entertainment administration.
