Despite pressure to have his name scrapped, Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi has been included among the nominees for the Africa Boxing Confederation (AFBC) presidency.
In a Vote of No Confidence statement released on September 30, the countries under the African eligible National Federations umbrella wanted Muhangi scrapped from the list.
"The candidate Moses Muhangi has been cleared although the AFBC Ethics Committee had sanctioned him with a fine of Five Thousand (5,000) Swiss Francs, not yet paid," led by Angola, the countries said in a statement.
"This is not about money, but the respect of principals. By ignoring the decision of the sanction, the IBA BIIU mocks and lacks consideration to the AFBC leadership, and AFBC cannot cope with that unacceptable behaviour."
However, in a document seen by Pulse Sports Uganda, Muhangi has cleared the funds in question as of October 02th, 2023.
The International Boxing Association (IBA) has then, on Monday, cleared Muhangi to stand for presidency.
He will hope to fend off opposition from the likes of Berhanu Eyassu Wossen, El Kabbouri Mohamed, Mendouga Bertrand Magloire Roland and Omo-Agege Siena Azania.

FOOTBALL Allan Okello: No knee surgery for Vipers star; return dates revealed
However, the Uganda Premier League champions have confirmed the Uganda Cranes star has been through the scans, which revealed he won't need surgery.
On the accusations, the IBA said: "Moses Muhangi responded with comprehensive explanations and submitted supporting documentation."
"Consequently, the BIIU recognized him as an eligible candidate for the Presidential elections, subject to his compliance with the penalty imposed by the AFBC Ethics Committee on February 4, 2023."
In a similar statement, the IBA has rubbished the Vote of No Confidence, saying it has "no legal force due to lack of competence" of the National Federations in question.
