The unjust awarding of points is a concern as Kenya's Hit Squad eyes the medal podium.

Kenya's boxing head coach, Benjamin Musa, has spoken out about the importance of a level playing field and fair treatment for all participants at the ongoing 2023 Africa Boxing Championships.

The prestigious event, currently being held in Yaounde, Cameroon, has often been marred by complaints of unjust awarding of points by judges.

However, Musa is optimistic that this year's competition will showcase the best of African boxing while ensuring fairness and justice prevail.

"I'm confident we picked the right boxers who have the expertise to make things happen," Musa stated. as per The Star.

"We just hope there will be a level playing field and everyone will be treated in a just way," he added.

The Hit Squad's 15-member contingent arrived in the Central African nation's capital in excellent shape, having conducted rigorous training sessions in Nairobi over the last two months.

"We are all happy to be in Yaounde for the Africa Boxing Championships. We prepared well for the competition, and I believe our boxers will put smiles on our faces with impressive performances," Musa said with confidence.

Kenya started its campaign with two boxers who were scheduled to compete in the preliminaries on the opening night.

Among them, Boniface Maina will face Burundian Nestor Nduwarugira in the men's light middleweight pre-quarterfinal, setting the tone for Kenya's quest for boxing glory.
