Fatuma Zarika is set to defend her WBF World Super Featherweight title against Tanzania's superstar after years of waiting.

After three years of waiting, boxing sensation Fatuma ‘Iron Fist’ Zarika is gearing up to defend her World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Super Featherweight title.

In November 2020, Zarika made history as she defeated Patience Mastara of Zimbabwe in a unanimous points decision (98-92,97-93, 98-91) to lift the coveted title in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

She is set to defend her title on Friday, October 27 in a bout to happen in Nairobi where she will be up against another Tanzanian, Fatuma Omari, who is also an able boxer in her own right.

Their clash, dubbed 'Betika Ultra Fight Series Boxing', will be held at the Broadwalk Mall along Ojijo Road in Parklands.

Speaking to The Standard, Zarika expressed her readiness for the bout since she has been sharpening her talons in readiness for the do-or-die assignment. She trains at the Vision Plaza Gym along Mombasa Road under the tutelage of coach Marvin Obuya.

“I’m happy that finally, I’ll be defending the title at home. I have used the almost three-year sabbatical from the ring to keep fit. I’m not burnt out," she said.

"I have done a lot of load work: running, lifting weights, and endless sparring. I’ll now focus my energy on speed, footwork, and self-defense to furnish my tactics in the remaining days.”

She also promised her fans a thrilling show when she enters the boxing ring one more time.
