Conjestina had been in rehabilitation at the Mombasa Women’s Rehabilitation Center for three months and has since been released.

Former Global Boxing Union Middleweight champion Conjestina Achieng has unfinished business that is hindering her from hanging her gloves anytime soon.

The 45-year-old had been in rehabilitation at the Mombasa Women’s Rehabilitation Center for three months and has since been released. She is now eager to achieve her dreams before she completely calls it quits on the sport.

“My future plan is to meet Milel Ali…I am eager to meet that lady. The reason why I want to meet her is because she is the current champion and I am not willing to see her rule while I am still around,” Achieng told Citizen Sport.

Before she took a break from professional boxing, she had managed to win 17 bouts out of all the 27 she had competed in. She lost only six and managed four draws.

As she was making headlines as one of the greatest boxers Kenya has ever had, she went under the radar for a while.

Later on, in 2011, her father appealed to Kenyans to help him take her to the hospital since her behaviour had deteriorated from the norm. At the time, she was admitted to the Mathare mental hospital but was later released.

Her health was worrying the masses with reports that she was suffering from Schizoaffective disorder. Later on, former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko intervened and took her to rehabilitation, and she even showed progress.

Since she is currently doing well, Achieng also wants to revive her foundation which became dormant due to lack of funds. Through the foundation, she will be keen to inspire youngsters and keep herself busy from distraction.

“I would like to call upon sponsors to come through and help me revive my foundation. The foundation was keeping me busy all the time and I was able to mentor a lot of youth,” she said.
