The win over Senegal is something Antuna believes the girls can use to realise that they can go up and compete against any team in the tournament.
After finishing second in Group C at the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket 2023, Uganda will face neighbours DR Congo in a qualifier game for the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Uganda stunned Senegal 85-83 and will ride on that confidence going into Tuesday’s fixture at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.

And after winning one and losing the other to complete their Group C games, Alberto Antuna’s charges are now fully aware of what awaits them in the next rounds of the competition.
“First of all, we are happy because we finished the group in second spot,” Antuna said after learning of the Gazelles’ next opponent.
“Probably the toughest group of Afrobasket, so we are happy to finish only behind Mali, but from now on, we are just focusing on Congo,” he added.
Congo finished bottom of Group D after losing both games to Nigeria and Egypt, but it cannot be taken lightly.

“Congo is a really physical team, experienced team more than us, but we need to adapt our game plan against them.
“As I said, they are a really athletic team, they’ve been playing with a seven, eight, nine player rotation, so we need to try to be a team.
“We have to run, be aggressive and score from our defence.”

“We are going to use it in a way like the players know that doing the game plan, respecting the rules, we can compete against anyone in this tournament, so obviosly, the win gives us confidence and some energy to keep competing.”
