With the two sides comprising some of the best players in the country, the contest promises to be a close one every time they meet.

The first-round match-up between JT Lady Jaguars and JKL Lady Dolphins announced the birth of a new rivalry in Ugandan hoops.

It was the first league meeting between the two sides and ended in dramatic fashion as the newly-promoted Lady Jaguars ran away with a slim 53-52 victory.

With the two sides comprising some of the best players in the country, the contest promises to be a close one every time the two sides meet.

The meeting on Women’s Day had to be decided with the last play of the game as Muhayimina Namuwaya’s block on Flavia Oketcho ensured there were no heartbreaks for the FUBA Division One Champions.

Maureen Amoding finished with game-high 12 points to lead the Lady Jaguars in scoring, while Sarah Ageno recorded a double-double of 10 points and 17 rebounds.

Brenda Ekone also raced to 12 points, while Oketcho and Hope Akello contributed 11 points each, with the latter adding 17 rebounds for a double-double.

That was in the first round, and that game gave the Lady Jaguars the opportunity to stay on top of the log with a better head-to-head record.

Both sides were tied on 9-2 records and 20 points, but that will change Friday night.

The winner of Friday’s game will go top of the log and take charge of the race to finish top at the end of the regular season.

JKL’s core features, Oketcho, Hope Akello, Ritah Imanishimwe and Ekone, will be expected to lead the way. At the same time, the Lady Jaguars have Zainah Lokwameri, Amoding, Ageno and Rhoda Naggita to count on.

From third-placed UCU Lady Canons to sixth-placed Magic Stormers, all teams are on 19 points with similar 8-3 records.

Any slip-ups by the two at the top will therefore come with ramifications, as the top spot is still there for the taking.
