The Rivers State team won by a remarkable 45 points in an exciting matchday three at the Louis Edem Basketball Championship in Lagos.

Former Nigerian champions Rivers Hoopers proved they are the team to beat as they continued their resurgence at the Louis Edem Basketball Championship.

It was another victory for Nigeria’s Comets who served the only visitors in the tournament, Ghana’s Spintex heartbreak in the jollof war.

Hoopers smash sorry Gidi Giants

In what can only be described as a whitewash, Rivers State side Hoopers obliterated Gidi Giants in one of the performances of the day.

It was indeed as comprehensive a win as it was one-sided for Rivers Hoopers as they romped to a 74-29 win over the Giants.

Owned by former NBA and D’Tigers star, Olumide Oyedeji, the Gidi Giants were anything but that on the court during the game against the Hoopers.

Rivers Hoopers have now won back-to-back games by over 40 points.

From the first quarter to the last, it was all Rivers Hoopers with Giants putting up what looked like a fight in the last quarter which ended 13-8 in favour of the Hoopers.

Spintex come short in jollof War

It was a more intense and keenly contested battle between visitors Spintex Knights and Lagos-based Comets.

The brilliant Ghanaians, Knights, came into the game against Comets in a very confident mood having won two of their opening three matches in the competition.

However, despite a gallant display from them, it was the Comets who came out with a narrow 56-54 win in the end.

Spintex won two of their four games in the competition.

Comets started strongly to take the first quarter 17-13 but the Knights bounced back to take the second 15-13.

It was 15-10 in the third quarter in favour of Comets, with Knights coming out tops in the last with a 16-10 points win.

But despite winning two of the quarters, Comets did just enough to edge Spintex to take the crucial win in the final round of the group stages.
