South Sudan face Team USA in a crucial Olympic basketball rematch with JT Thor and LeBron James as key players.

Bright Stars are rising on the basketball horizon as South Sudan prepares to face the formidable Team USA in a highly anticipated rematch at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Just ten days ago, in a nail-biting exhibition game, the world witnessed South Sudan nearly topple the American giants, leading by as many as 16 points before a dramatic one-point loss.

The stakes are dramatically higher in this Olympic encounter not just an exhibition but a crucial game with medal implications.

Team USA are hunting for its fifth consecutive gold medal and enters as a 29.5-point favorite.

In their last meeting, LeBron James was the savior for the Americans, scoring a game-winning layup.

This time around, the return of Kevin Durant, who missed the exhibition due to rest, adds more firepower to an already star-studded lineup.

Durant's sharpshooting skills were on full display in Team USA’s recent rout of Serbia where he scored 23 points and was flawless from beyond the arc.

However, South Sudan is not to be underestimated as the team has shown tremendous growth marked by their historic first-ever Olympic win against Puerto Rico.

Marial Shayok, a 29-year-old guard, has emerged as a pivotal player impressing with his scoring ability in the exhibition game against the USA by dropping 24 points, including six three-pointers.

Alongside him Carlik Jones who notched a triple-double in that same game continues to prove his versatility and leadership on the court.

The rematch also promises to spotlight Celtics star Jayson Tatum, who, after sitting out the game against Serbia, is confirmed to see minutes against South Sudan.

Steve Kerr, the USA’s head coach, expressed regret over not utilizing Tatum previously and has made it clear that the forward will be a significant part of the game plan this time.

Tatum's inclusion could provide a fresh challenge for South Sudan, who will also have to contend with Jrue Holiday's tenacious defense.

For South Sudan, the pressure is also on JT Thor, an NBA forward, who needs to bounce back from a lackluster performance in their victory over Puerto Rico.

His contribution could be crucial if South Sudan hopes to counter the depth and talent of the American squad.
