AFROBASKET No Lokwameri as final Gazelles team is named

Lokwameri is the Fuba Women’s Division One MVP and was part of the Gazelles team that played in the last qualifiers held in Kampala.

The final list for the Gazelles team to play at the Fiba Women’s Zone V AfroBasket Qualifiers has been named with one major headline.

Small forward Zainah Lokwameri is the biggest miss on the final team with just hours to the start of the tournament.

The coaching staff has kept its cards close to their chests and only revealed the team after Monday evening’s technical meeting held at Onomo Hotel, Nakasero.

Lokwameri is the Fuba Women’s Division One MVP and was part of the Gazelles team that played in the last qualifiers held in Kampala. She averaged 15 points and six rebounds in the lower division.

UCU Lady Canons small forward Agatha Kamwanda and KIU Rangers shooting guard Perus Nyamwenge are the other two left out.

Shilla Lamunu, the youngest member of the group, makes the cut and will be looking to maker her debut alongside players like Evelyn Nakiyingi, Bridget Aber, Jannon Otto, Maria Najjuma, Leticia Awor and Shakira Nanvubya.

Seasoned campaigner Flavia Oketcho leads the team with her experience. Ritah Imanishimwe and Hope Akello are some of the other experienced players on the final team.

Uganda will face Kenya in the opening game on Tuesday and all eyes will be on finishing number one to take the sole ticket available for Zone V.
