To wrap up the NBA Playoffs, Luka Doncic was named MVP as the Mavericks beat the Timberwolves in Game 5, advancing to the Finals.

A 124-103 blowout of the Minnesota Timberwolves secured the Dallas Mavericks a trip to the NBA Finals. Luka Dončić scored 20 of his 36 points in the first quarter, while Kyrie Irving also scored 36.

In Game 5, Dallas never faced any threat as it led by as many as 36 points in the third quarter and had a 29-point lead at the half on 61 percent shooting.

Before the NBA Finals get underway in Boston on June 6—the Mavericks' first post-title run since 2011—they will get a full week off. After completing a sweeping of Indiana on Monday, the Celtics have not played.

Irving's career record in closeout games increased to 15-1 in the playoffs.

The Wolves, who had won Game 4 in Dallas on Tuesday, were unable to build on their lead as Anthony Edwards scored 28 points and Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds.

Later in the first quarter, Doncic blasted a 32-footer in addition to hitting his first four attempts.

The Mavs finished with a 17-1 surge that they extended to 28-5 in a nine-minute period.

Following a 21-point fourth quarter in the Western Conference finals defeat to Golden State in 2022, it was Doncic's second 20-point quarter of the postseason.
