Moroccan defense stifles Morans' offense in hard-fought battle at Kilamba Arena in Angola.

The Kenya national men's basketball team Morans fell short in their quest for victory as they lost 46-55 to Morocco in the FIBA AfroCan quarter finals played at  Kilamba Arena in Luanda, Angola on Thursday afternoon.

Despite a valiant effort, the Morans were unable to overcome their opponents' determined defense and skillful play.

Right from the start, the Morans encountered difficulties, finding themselves on the back foot as they lost the first quarter 10-17.

Morocco's well-executed game plan posed challenges for the Kenyan team, and they continued to struggle in the second quarter, trailing by five points with a score of 12-17.

However, the Morans refused to surrender and displayed their resilience in the third quarter, managing to outscore Morocco with a 15-9 lead.

This resurgence injected hope and enthusiasm into the Kenyan camp, as they fought tooth and nail to narrow the gap.

Unfortunately, in a closely contested battle, they faltered in the final quarter, losing 9-12, and ultimately fell short of victory.

One of the key factors contributing to Kenya's defeat was a series of poor passes by most of the players, resulting in turnovers and missed opportunities.

Despite these setbacks, Tom Bush Wamukota showcased his exceptional skills and emerged as the standout player for the Kenyan side.

Wamukota's contributions on both ends of the court were crucial, demonstrating his commitment and determination throughout the game.

On the opposing side, Kevin Bruno delivered an outstanding performance for Morocco, leading his team to victory.

Bruno's exceptional skills and precise execution proved to be a significant challenge for the Morans' defense, making it difficult for them to contain his offensive prowess.

The quarterfinal clash marked a significant shift in fortunes since their previous encounter four years ago.

Back in 2019, Kenyan Morans dominated Morocco with an impressive 96-66 victory in the AfroCan Semi-Finals held in Bamako, Mali.

While this defeat may sting, the Morans can draw motivation from their past successes as they continue their journey in the tournament.

Amidst the disappointment, one bright spot for the Kenyan team has been the emergence of Derrick Ogechi. The young talent has been a revelation in the tournament, showcasing his skills and averaging an impressive 17.5 points per game.

Ogechi's stellar performances have caught the attention of fans and experts alike, hinting at a promising future for the rising star.

Looking ahead, the Morans must regroup and shift their focus to the upcoming 5-8 classification match in the tournament. Their next challenge will come against the loser of the Tunisia and Ivory Coast clash.
