Kenyan basketball team secures narrow victory against Nigerian rivals in FIBA AfroCan Championships

Kenya's national men's basketball team, the Morans, have secured a stunning victory over Nigeria in a FIBA AfroCan Championships classification match played on Friday in Luanda Angola.

The game ended with a final score of 61-59, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the last second.

The Morans started off strong, dominating the first quarter with a score of 20-13. Led by the impressive performance of Bramwel Mwombe, the Kenyan team showcased their skills and determination.

However, a few turnovers and fouls allowed Nigeria to regain control during the second quarter, resulting in a score of 13-18 in favor of the West Africans.

The third quarter saw a close battle, with Kenya narrowly trailing Nigeria by two points, 11-13. With the clock ticking, the Morans rallied in the final quarter, displaying resilience and unwavering teamwork. They managed to outscore Nigeria 17-15, clinching a remarkable victory that left their opponents stunned.

Coach Cliff Owuor's charges had faced disappointment in the quarterfinals, where they suffered a 55-46 defeat at the hands of Morocco.

Nevertheless, the Morans proved their mettle by bouncing back and displaying exceptional basketball prowess against Nigeria.

The road to the quarterfinals had not been easy for Kenya. In Group A, three teams - Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon, and the Morans - found themselves tied on three points each.

However, it was the Kenyan team's superior points difference that secured their place in the next stage of the tournament.

This year, the Morans had set their sights on emulating their remarkable achievements in 2019 when they reached the final of the AfroCan Championships but fell short against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
