BASKETBALL Kenya Basketball Federation reschedules AGM to mourn Kioni

The second vice president of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) passed away early Sunday morning.

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) has set a new date for the eagerly awaited Annual General Meeting (AGM) to mourn the passing of Kenya Volleyball Federation President Waithaka Kioni.

In a statement from KBF, the exercise that was initially set for next weekend will now be held in the first week of April in Nairobi.

Officials from Kenya National Basketball League participating clubs, county branches, referees commissions, coaches commissions, players commissions, Women Basketball Commission, and Standing committees will attend the gathering.

A top of the agenda of the meeting is the appointment of auditors and consideration of annual audited accounts.

Other key points include reading notices convening the meeting, confirming minutes of previous meetings, and receiving and considering the chairman's report and activities report.

"Reference to the notice dated March 22 2023, the Annual General Meeting is hereby rescheduled for Saturday, May 5 2023 at Nyayo National Stadium basketball gymnasium.

This postponement is in mourning solidarity with our sister volleyball federation following the demise of their president, the late Waithaka Kioni," reads part of the statement.

Kioni, who also served as the second National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) passed on on Sunday, April 9, 2023.

He was reportedly taken ill on Saturday, April 8, 2023, and rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed around 1:00 am on Sunday.

It is worth noting that Kenya National Basketball League regular season matches will end on April 16.
