Future NBA Hall of Famer LeBron James has reflected on his potential retirement after turning 40-years-old and a career spanning over two decades.

NBA superstar LeBron James has found himself reflecting on an extraordinary career that has spanned more than two decades after his 40th birthday.

Speaking candidly about this milestone during a Lakers practice session on December 3, James shared insights into his journey.

“I mean, I had a decade of the 30s, so, you know, to just wake up and be like, ‘Oh, 40,’ it’s kind of laughable,” James remarked.

“To know where I am, still playing the game at a high level, still being such a young man but old in the scheme of how many years I’ve got in this profession, it’s surreal."

The future Hall of Famer reflected on his decades-long career, coming into the league as a youngster and now competing with youngsters himself.

"I think back to when I came into the league as an 18-year-old kid, and now I’m sitting here as a 40-year-old, a 23-year veteran with a 20-year-old in the NBA," he remarked.

The four-time NBA champion and widely regarded all-time great continues to perform at an elite level, defying expectations and conventional age limits for professional athletes.

Despite his longevity, James addressed the inevitable question of retirement with thoughtful consideration.

“It won’t be because I can’t play this game at a high level,” he stated firmly.

“To be honest, if I really wanted to, I could probably play this game at a high level for another weird five or seven years. But I’m not going to do that," he stated confidently.

The NBA great admitted he will miss the game when he decides to hang the boots but ruled out a possiblity of following in the footsteps of fellow great Michael Jordan and take back tot the court.

"I will miss the hell out of it, for sure, but no, I won’t walk away and then come back," he asserted.

James’ reflection underscores his unparalleled commitment to basketball and his ability to sustain excellence throughout his career.

As he balances his legendary status with the realities of aging, his words suggest a measured approach to his eventual departure from the game he loves.

For fans, the idea of a post-LeBron NBA feels almost unimaginable, but James’ perspective highlights the thoughtfulness and self-awareness that have defined his career both on and off the court.
