After conquering the 1500m distance, three-time Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon is eying a different challenge in longer distances and perhaps the marathon.

Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon, the undisputed queen of middle-distance running, is considering new challenges in her illustrious career after cementing her legacy in the 1500m.

The Kenyan athlete made history by becoming the first to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the event, triumphing at the 2016 Rio, 2020 Tokyo, and 2024 Paris Games.

Reflecting on her monumental achievements, Kipyegon expressed a desire to explore longer distances as she progresses in her career.

"I think for me you know when the age comes you have to move from one distance to another especially when it come to sprint you know you can't stay in 1500m for long.," she revealed in an episode of the Engage Talk.

You have to move to a longer distance because the age also is catching up you know. So I have to to introduce my legs that this is the way to go you have to move from 1500m to 5000m and then going to to Marathon in future. Maybe you will see me in Marathon in future," she added teasingly.

Highlighting the role of mental preparation, she added, "I think it's solely the mindset, you have to just set you mind that I'm moving from 1500m to 5000 and I still have to achieve what I have achieved in 1500m before moving to the other distance. I think it's really the mind tuning."

Kipyegon’s transition to longer distances has already shown great promise. In 2023, she debuted in the 5000m at the World Athletics Championships and claimed gold, demonstrating her versatility and endurance.

She followed this with a silver medal in the 5000m at the 2024 Paris Olympics, further solidifying her reputation as one of the most adaptable athletes in the sport.

As Kipyegon considers a future in events like the marathon, she remains focused on conquering the 5000m, aiming to replicate her 1500m dominance.

Her ability to seamlessly transition between distances, coupled with her relentless pursuit of excellence will likely propel her to similar greatness she showcased over the 1500m.
