Emmanuel Wanyonyi kickstarts preparations for 2025 after record-breaking 2024 season
Olympic 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi has begun his preparations for a promising 2025 season after a record-threatening 2024.
Evans Chebet did most of the work throughout the race but Abdi Nageeye, who was coming out of a disappointing Paris 2024 Olympic Games, meant business when he surged to the front and took the win. Abdi Nageeye failed to finish the race at the Olympic Games.
Reacting to his performance, Evans Chebet promised to return in next year’s edition with high hopes of reclaiming his title.
“Thank you, New York City Marathon! You are so special to me! Looking forward to seeing you next year…once again,” he shared on his Instagram handle.
This season, Evans Chebet started his season with a third-place finish at the Boston Marathon, clocking 2:07:22. The Kenyan distance sensation then raced at the Great North Run, clocking 1:02:31 to round up the podium. He capped off his season with a second-place finish in the streets of New York.
Last season was a disaster for Chebet who started off with a win at the Boston Marathon in a time of 2:05:54 but an injury setback would see him end his season there.
Evans Chebet also missed out on the Kenyan Olympic squad due to an injury but from his second-place finish in the streets of New York, he is back on track and will be out to take what is rightfully his.
