Julien Alfred was snubbed as World Athletics announced the winners of the track Athletes of the Year with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Letsile Tebogo claiming the respective spots.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has beaten Julien Alfred to take the Female Track Athlete of the Year Award as Letsile Tebogo shone on the men’s side.

Both athletes have had impressive seasons, with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone breaking her world record twice this season. She started her record-breaking campaign with a win at the US Olympic trials before shattering her record again at the Paris Olympic Games.

On his part, Letsile Tebogo was on a mission to make history as he became the first African to win an Olympic title in the 200m, striking an African record time. Tebogo also anchored Botswana’s 4x400m men’s relay team to a silver medal.

After the Olympic Games, he did not rest on his laurels as he continued his winning streak to a series of Diamond League Meetings before capping off his season with a second-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.

The Male Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year Winner was Tamirat Tola, thanks to his dominant performance that saw him yield an Olympic record in the marathon, clocking 2:06:26 to win the race at the Paris Olympic Games. He also finished fourth at the New York City Marathon.

Tola beat Benson Kipruto, who had also been nominated. Kenya’s Kipruto won a bronze medal in Paris and had just come from winning the Tokyo Marathon earlier this year.

Sifan Hassan took the women’s crown home, following her dominant performance at the Paris Olympic Games. Hassan had competed in the 5000m and 10,000m where she took bronze in both races before winning a gold in the marathon. She opened her season with a fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Marathon.

It was no surprise that Mondo Duplantis took home the Male Field Athlete of the Year Award following his series of world records and wins. Yaroslava Mahuchikh claimed the women’s top prize.
